Foreclosure Prevention

"We are just happy to have contacted the Housing Center and how everything went through and was smooth."

"We thought it would drag out for months and it didn’t." So says Luciano and Zoraida Medina after working with the Northwest Side Housing Center’s Housing Counselor. The Medina’s were unable to make their mortgage payments due to increasing debt and an auto accident. They did not want to file bankruptcy. Refinancing their loan was not an option. The Housing Center’s Counselor negotiated with their lender. They received a modification to their loan that made their monthly payment affordable.

Zoraida Medina states that no one facing foreclosure should feel alone or ashamed. "We never expected this to happen to us and it was hard to take that first step. It took a lot for us to contact the Housing Center but after we met with the Housing Counselor, we felt comfortable and good. You have to make that first call. People can’t help you if you don’t open up."
