Housing Counseling : Whether you are a current homeowner or hoping to become one soon, housing counseling can help answer a lot of questions. As a certified HUD Housing Counseling organization, NWSHC provides free housing counseling and trainings on the following topics: First Time Home Buyers, Post Purchase, Foreclosure Prevention, Reverse Mortgage Counseling, Condo Training and Landlord Training. If you are in foreclosure or close to it, please call us for immediate assistance. Affordability Gap Loan Program : Designed to help homeowners who are at risk of losing their home to foreclosure and have a loan with predatory characteristics, this program provides an opportunity to finance out of a “bad” loan and into one you can afford for the long term. Staying Put Senior Leadership : This group of older adults meets regularly to find ways to help seniors “stay put” in their community on the northwest side of Chicago. The group’s current campaign is focused on a piloted transportation program for seniors living on the northwest side. Staying Rented : Often used by older adults who have an apartment available to rent, this “matchmaking service” pairs a landlord with someone who is looking for an affordable apartment. NWSHC helps coordinate the process of renting an apartment, conducts background checks of potential tenants & provides on-going monitoring. HomeSharing : This matchmaking service pairs a homeowner (often an older adult) who has an extra bedroom available with someone at least 18 years old and looking for affordable housing. Housing Committee : This group of community residents addresses housing issues of concern and organizes to make changes that will benefit the northwest side. ![]() |
