Pre-Purchase Counseling

Whether you're ready now or are new to the process, we can help you plan to purchase a home. We offer one-on-one counseling and First-Time Homebuyer Classes to help you navigate the home-buying process.

First-Time Homebuyer Class

Our First-Time Homebuyer Class is a two-part course exploring the homebuying process, from building your credit to closing the deal. This program is valuable for individuals participating in down payment assistance programs, the neighborhood stabilization program and other home purchase programs. A certificate will be provided upon completion.

They’re so helpful. They listen at you. They don’t judge you. They don’t make snap decisions, and they say we’re gonna work through this.

Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)

Meet with one of our LIHEAP counselors to learn how you can make heating and cooling your home more affordable and energy efficient. You may also qualify for energy cost discounts or monthly utility payments. LIHEAP is available to low-income, qualifying households in Cook County.

Rental Counseling

Our Rental Program offers resources, budget assistance, credit counseling, and assistance in your search and application for affordable private and subsidized housing.
The NWSHC does not provide monetary assistance or maintain our own stock of housing.
